Excursion to ET Lusatia
Excursion to ET Lusatia
exkurzeOnly for the participants of the 5th Einstein Telescope Annual Meeting!
Our colleagues from ET Lusatia have prepared a very interesting whole-day optional trip to the region of one of the ET candidate sites, to Lusatia. The trip will take place on Sunday, November 22, i.e. a day before the start of the Annual Meeting.
The trip is being offered completely free of charge, it is necessary only to register here.
The invitation from our colleagues with the detailed program follows:
"We are delighted to offer interested participants of the conference the opportunity to explore some of the scientific, geological and technical activities related to the Einstein Telescope project in Lusatia, while also discovering the region and its cultural heritage.
Our preliminary programme for Sunday, 22 November 2026, would be as follows:
8:00 – Departure from Prague: Pick-up by bus at FZU (conference venue; address point: Pod vodárenskou věží 3, Praha 8; 5-minute walking distance from the subway station "Ládví" on red line C)
Morning – Freiberg: Visit to the historic Reiche Zeche research and teaching mine. Freiberg is home to the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg, founded in 1765 and the world's oldest university of mining and geosciences. The university is also a partner in the cooperation between Saxony and Sardinia in the joint efforts to host the Einstein Telescope.
A light lunch could also be arranged at the Reiche Zeche or on the bus.
Early afternoon – ET exploratory borehole: Visit to our ET exploratory borehole in Lusatia, which is expected to be operational by then. This would provide an opportunity to present our ongoing geological investigations and discuss the suitability of the Lusatian granite for the Einstein Telescope.
Afternoon – Kamenz: Visit to the special exhibition “GRANIT.massiv – Die Lausitz hört das All”(“Lusatia Listens to the Universe”) at the Museum der Westlausitz. The museum focuses on the natural and cultural history of the region. The exhibition explores the geological characteristics of Lusatian granite and their significance for astrophysical research, linking the region's geological heritage with the Einstein Telescope project.
Supper will be arranged at the Museum.
Around 18:00 – Return to Prague: Departure by bus, with arrival to the FZU site at around 20:30
